The deconstruction of a billboard on a billboard

In Mexico there is a proliferation of billboards – many advertising CocaCola, Corona or the enticement of a new car, but just as many disintegrating, rusting or showing the traces of the various faded images that have come before.

These workers are putting up/taking down the structure for a billboard, ready for the next new thing. The city is awash with signs but here is a billboard without words, at least for a little while.

Paseo Bulnes (Bulnes Promenade) and Santa Isabel areas represent another significant historical district in downtown Santiago (centre). A recent call for an international competition of ideas aims to revitalise its civic character and further its importance within the city´s grid. The elite jury for this competition includes the Pritzker Prize Rafael Moneo.

This exhibition/installation was displayed today (22.08.12) at the Faculty of Law (Facultad de Derecho), University of Chile in Santiago. The work symbolising global warming, marks the inauguration of the VI Jornadas de Derecho Ambiental (VI Environmental Rights Conference) and has been exhibited already in France, Italy, Portugal, Cuba, Germany and Japan.

In december I wrote about corporate social responsibility; I questioned if the reasons why individuals volunteer their time and money towards charitable causes are the same reasons corporations do similar? I looked at Footscray and how its is rapidly changing and is expected to continue to change - so to follow up, over chirstmas Kamil, Katherine and I were invited to the Footscray Community Lunch.
