On August 24th, Architects For Peace successfully launched the pro bono service in the newly opened Council House 2 in Melbourne on August 24. The launch provided us with the opportunity to introduce our organization to other professionals of the built environment as well as community groups and non-profit organizations. It was also a great and well deserved social gathering.

We had three wonderful speakers who spoke with passion about their professional work and experience with pro bono projects. These speakers included Mike Pearce, the architect of the Council House 2, Marko Misko from Clayton Utz Lawyers who have supported Architects for Peace’s pro bono by offering their own free legal services and Natalie Moxham from Friends of Baucau who launched a new project in Timor Leste.

The night included a slide show of work related to Architects for Peace and pro bono projects, music and delicious traditional finger food prepared by Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and the Collingwood Housing Estate. We also had beer kindly donated by Fish Rock Brewery. Architects for Peace opera singer, Rachel Sztanski performed two stunning arias on the night.
